HYDERABAD: Hyderabad city police arrested a key accused for allegedly assaulting a police constable and obstructing Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) officials during an anti-encroachment drive at Murgi Chowk.

The incident took place on April 4 around 10:15 IST. GHMC teams, with support from police in the Charminar division, were clearing illegal encroachments from Lad Bazar to Puranapool.

Unlawful assembly disrupts demolition drive

Police said Sahil Akber (A-1), along with Ghouse (A-2), a former corporator, and Rahmath Baig (A-3), a Member of Legislative Council (MLC), gathered with others and blocked the officials.

The group acted aggressively and tried to intimidate the staff during the drive.

Constable attacked while on duty

Police arrested Sahil Akber on April 5 near Murgi Chowk. During questioning, he admitted his role in the incident, officials said.

The police produced him before the Chief Judicial Magistrate in Nampally. The court sent him to judicial custody.
