HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad police have introduced a 24×7 surveillance protocol by forming multidisciplinary teams to ensure uninterrupted functioning of the city’s CCTV network.

Police commissioner VC Sajjanar said the teams will conduct field visits, carry out repairs and maintain thousands of cameras across the city. “The aim is to reduce downtime and ensure that critical surveillance systems remain continuously operational,” he said.

Hyderabad currently uses more than 16,000 police-owned street cameras, along with over 50,000 community and privately contributed feeds. In addition, the city has over one lakh ‘Nenu Saitam’ cameras, forming one of the largest urban CCTV ecosystems in India.

Teams to support ACSGMP rollout

The Advanced City Surveillance Grid Management Protocol (ACSGMP), initiated by the Hyderabad police, outlines an end-to-end strategy for installing and maintaining surveillance systems.

The new structure includes a technology due-diligence team, a camera support call centre, EYES teams, two zonal teams for each zone, stores and repair units, a corporate social responsibility (CSR) desk and a data-analytics wing. Officials said the protocol is expected to ensure higher asset uptime, faster repairs, improved incident management through data-driven planning and reduced operational costs.

“The new integrated approach redefines the way CCTV infrastructure is maintained and leveraged for the benefit of public safety,” Sajjanar added.

Dedicated fleet deployed for quick repairs

To ensure rapid field response, the police have assigned 10 two-wheelers, four cars and a mechanised aerial ladder unit exclusively for CCTV-related maintenance.
