Hyderabad police book 103 cases over Chinese manja sale

HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad police have registered 103 cases and arrested 143 persons for selling Chinese manja, seizing 6,226 bobbins during raids across the city.
VC Sajjanar, Commissioner of Police, Hyderabad, said the sale and use of Chinese manja are banned and attract legal action. He said police teams have been keeping watch over those involved in the trade for the past month.
Raids across shops and godowns
Special teams and local police have been conducting raids on shops and godowns to seize the banned manja, he added.
Cases under environment and criminal laws
Cases have been registered under the Environment Protection Act and relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. “In every case, a detailed investigation is being conducted to identify the source of the Chinese manja,” Sajjanar said.
Police are also monitoring e-commerce websites and other online platforms. Cases will be registered against platform managements found facilitating the sale, he added, urging the public not to use Chinese manja as it invites legal action.
