Hyderabad sessions court that sentenced a security guard in Pot Market POCSO case

HYDERABAD: A sessions court in Hyderabad on December 19, 2025, sentenced a security guard to 25 years of rigorous imprisonment in a sexual assault case involving a minor girl at Pot Market in Secunderabad.

The Market Police Station had registered the case in Crime No. 245/2024 under Sections 96 and 65(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Section 5(m) read with Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, and Sections 3(1)(w) and 3(2)(v) of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. The complaint was lodged on October 27, 2024, by the victim’s mother.

According to police, the accused, identified as Arjun Kumar Jha alias Arjun Pandey, who was working as a security guard at Golden Plaza Building, Pot Market, forcibly took the minor girl to the fourth floor of the building around 11 pm on October 26, 2024, assaulted her and raped her. Hearing the child’s cries, people in the building rushed to the spot, rescued the girl and apprehended the accused.

Police said they collected scientific, medical and documentary evidence during the investigation and examined witnesses before filing a charge sheet.

After trial, XII Additional Sessions Judge T. Anitha, Nampally, convicted the accused in SCPC No. 47/2025. In addition to 25 years of rigorous imprisonment, the court imposed a fine of ₹20,000 and directed payment of ₹2 lakh as compensation to the survivor.

The investigation was conducted by Deputy Superintendent of Police Sardar Singh of the Women Safety Wing (CID). Court-related duties were handled by police constable J. Sai Kumar of Mahankali police station, while summons duty was carried out by police constable B. Venu.

Deputy Commissioner of Police S. Rashmi Perumal said the conviction reflected the Hyderabad City Police’s commitment to ensuring justice in cases of sexual offences against minors.
