Chandrayangutta POCSO convict gets 20 years in jail

HYDERABAD: A court in Hyderabad has sentenced a 70-year-old man to 20 years in prison after convicting him in a case registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

The case pertains to the sexual assault of a minor girl in Chandrayangutta in 2023. Following a complaint lodged by the victim’s parents, Chandrayangutta police registered a case and launched an investigation.

Police arrest accused after investigation

During the investigation, police collected evidence and recorded statements before arresting the accused, Mohammed Jameeruddin. After completing the probe, they filed a chargesheet before the court.

The prosecution presented evidence and examined witnesses during the trial. After hearing arguments from both sides and reviewing the material placed on record, the court found Jameeruddin guilty of the offence.

Court cites evidence in conviction

Based on the evidence presented during the trial, the court convicted the accused and sentenced him to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment. It also imposed a fine of ₹5,000.

The judgment marks the conclusion of the trial in a case that was registered following allegations of sexual assault on a minor girl. The conviction comes under the provisions of the POCSO Act, which provides for stringent punishment in offences involving children.
