Over 420 bags of suspected PDS rice, 25 wheat bags seized in Hyderabad raid

HYDERABAD: The Vigilance and Enforcement Department seized more than 420 bags of suspected Public Distribution System (PDS) rice and 25 bags of PDS wheat during a late-night raid at Al Jabri Colony under the Balapur police station limits in Ranga Reddy district on July 6.

Acting on credible information, the team raided a tin-sheet shed at around 00.10 IST. Officials found an Ashok Leyland 16-tyre lorry (MH 26 AD 2107) and two Ashok Leyland Intra mini trucks (TS 07 UG 0769 and TS 07 UD 8170) at the site.

Foodgrains allegedly repacked for illegal transport

Officials said they seized 25 bags of PDS wheat and around 420 bags of PDS rice, each weighing 50 kg. The foodgrains had allegedly been repacked into plastic bags.

The raid was conducted under the supervision of Deputy Superintendent of Police A. Ramesh. Inspector Ajay Babu, Sub-Inspector Srisailam and Constable Narra Prabhakar were part of the operation.

Police begin investigation into source of commodities

The seized foodgrains and vehicles were handed over to the local police for further investigation and legal action.

Officials are investigating the source of the diverted PDS commodities and attempting to identify those involved in their alleged illegal storage and transportation.
