Hyderabad police execute PD order against PDS rice black-marketing accused
HYDERABAD: Hyderabad police on September 3 executed a preventive detention (PD) order against Mohd Nahid, 30, for his alleged repeated involvement in the illegal procurement, diversion and black marketing of subsidised Public Distribution System (PDS) commodities.
The detention order was issued by the Hyderabad commissioner of police under Section 3 of the Prevention of Blackmarketing and Maintenance of Supplies of Essential Commodities Act, 1980.
Police said Nahid, son of late Mohd Ali Baig and a footwear businessman from Jahanuma in Charminar, operated an organised network with associates to procure subsidised PDS rice and wheat from beneficiaries and others at low prices.
Police allege commodities were stored before interstate transport
According to the police, the commodities were stored in clandestine godowns before being transported to other states for sale at higher prices.
The activity allegedly caused financial loss to the state government and the Civil Supplies Corporation. Police also said it affected the functioning of the PDS, which supplies essential commodities to eligible beneficiaries.
Two criminal cases have been registered against Nahid at Pahadishareef Police Station.
In Crime No. 166/2026, police booked him under Section 318(4) read with Section 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 7 of the Essential Commodities Act, 1955.
A similar case was registered as Crime No. 167/2026 under Section 318(4) read with Section 3(5) of the BNS and Section 7 of the Essential Commodities Act.
Detention order issued on August 13, lodged in Chanchalguda
The commissioner issued the detention order under Ref. SB(I) No. 314/CIU-7/PD/HYD/2026 on August 13, 2026, citing the need to prevent Nahid from continuing activities prejudicial to the maintenance of supplies of commodities essential to the community.
Pahadishareef police apprehended Nahid on September 3 and executed the detention order. He was subsequently lodged in Central Prison, Chanchalguda, Hyderabad.
