Facility firm to pay ₹10 lakh in 2019 electrocution case at Hyderabad gated community

HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission has directed a facility management company to pay ₹10 lakh as compensation to the parents of a six-year-old boy who died of electrocution at a gated community in 2019. The commission also ordered payment of ₹10,000 towards litigation costs.
The victim, Died on the spot on an evening in February 2019 while playing in the lawn of PBEL City, a gated community in Narsingi. At around 18.00 IST, he was playing bat-and-ball when he held a lamp post to retrieve the ball and collapsed.
An investigation later found that his hand had come into contact with a live underground wire. The incident, captured on CCTV, had triggered protests within the residential complex.
Case registered under IPC sections
Police registered a case under Sections 336, 337, 338 and 304A of the Indian Penal Code against the builder, Incor; the maintenance agency, Golden Star; and the residents’ welfare association.
The postmortem report confirmed that the cause of death was electrocution.
Residents had questioned how a live underground wire was present in a common play area. The incident had raised concerns across gated communities about safety standards and maintenance practices.
Parents fought case for seven years
The Victim was the son of a software professional from Chennai. The boy was studying at a private school in Bandlaguda and was living with his parents at PBEL City at the time of the incident.
The family pursued legal proceedings for seven years, contesting the role of the maintenance agency.
In its recent order, the commission held the opposite party liable and directed it to compensate the complainant for the mental agony and hardship suffered.
“Money is not important. We won’t get our son back. But the order will prove that it was the facility company’s fault and they are held guilty for the death of my son,” Father said. The family continues to live in Hyderabad with their younger child.
