Hyderabad Residents File 47 Complaints On Park Encroachments, Lake Flooding

HYDERABAD: Several residents have alleged that open spaces and parks are being encroached upon and converted for commercial use. Temples and sheds have come up inside parks, while layouts reserved for green zones are being fenced off for private use.
Complainants urged the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) to fence all park lands and protect government properties.

Ameenpur, Raviryala lakes submerging nearby houses

Residents from Ameenpur in Sangareddy district and Raviryala in Ranga Reddy district said that lake areas have expanded, flooding houses in upper catchment zones. They blamed blocked inlets and sewage inflow for the rise in water levels and urged authorities to clear drainage channels and lower lake bund heights.

Old Alwal residents seek filling of quarry pits

In Old Alwal (Survey No. 576), residents of Gang Avenue complained that abandoned quarry pits have turned into sewage pools, causing a foul smell. They demanded that the pits be filled and developed into parks.

Encroachments, misuse in housing colonies

Residents of Raviryala Housing Board Colony in Maheshwaram mandal said open plots and parks were being encroached upon, with temples and sheds built and rented out. In Baglingampally division under Musheerabad constituency, a 1,300-sq-yd park area has been taken over by steel and iron shops, they said. Despite complaints to the Housing Board and the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), no action has been taken.

Land encroachment in Machabollaram

Residents of Balaji Enclave at Machabollaram in Alwal mandal (Medchal–Malkajgiri district) alleged that 30 guntas of government land (Survey No. 188) was being encroached upon. They requested the government to allocate the land for a primary school and protect it from occupation.

In all, Hydraa’s Prajavani programme received 47 complaints on Monday, which were reviewed by Additional Commissioner N Ashok Kumar, who directed officials to take necessary action.
