How a one-month-old baby was kidnapped from Lingampally and rescued within three days
HYDERABAD: Cyberabad Police rescued a one-month-old baby girl and arrested five people for allegedly kidnapping and attempting to sell the infant in an interstate child trafficking racket.
The baby was kidnapped from her mother while she was sleeping on a pavement near Lingampally Railway Station in the early hours of June 30. Police rescued the infant within three days and reunited her with her mother.
According to police, the complainant, Malan Bourav Shantha Bai, 25, a circus worker from Baswanagar Colony in Karnataka’s Bidar district, was sleeping with members of her circus troupe beside the wall of Lingampally Railway Station at about 02.00 hours on June 30. She alleged that unknown persons arrived in an autorickshaw and snatched her one-month-old daughter from her lap before fleeing.
Based on her complaint, Chandanagar Police registered Crime No. 691/2026 under Sections 137(2) and 97 read with Section 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Section 84 of the Juvenile Justice Act.
Three police teams tracked accused through CCTV footage
Police constituted three special teams under the supervision of ACP Ch. Y. Srinivas of RC Puram Division. Teams led by Inspector S. Vijai, Detective Inspector Sathyanarayana and Detective Inspector N. Bhaskar analysed CCTV footage from Cyberabad, Hyderabad and Malkajgiri for three days before tracing and arresting the accused.
The arrested accused have been identified as Mohammed Zubair of Vikarabad, Mohammed Irfan of Vikarabad, Sadequa Maqsood alias Naziya of Neredmet, Nimmy Jahan alias Seema Ali of Banjara Hills, and Rehnuma Ali of Kolkata.
Police said the investigation revealed that Rehnuma Ali, who allegedly had no children after marrying in 2021, approached her aunt Seema Ali to arrange a baby for adoption in exchange for money. Seema allegedly contacted her friend Naziya, who in turn informed her fiancé Zubair about the requirement.
Police allege conspiracy to kidnap newborn for sale
According to investigators, Zubair and his associate Irfan, an autorickshaw driver with a previous theft case, allegedly conspired to kidnap a newborn for financial gain. While searching for a target, they allegedly spotted the complainant and her infant sleeping near Lingampally Railway Station.
Police said the two allegedly hired an autorickshaw and kidnapped the infant at about 02.00 hours on June 30 before taking the child to Naziya’s residence. The accused allegedly informed Seema and Rehnuma Ali after the kidnapping.
Investigators said Rehnuma Ali travelled from Kolkata to Hyderabad by flight on July 1 along with her aunt Sarvari to take custody of the infant. Police alleged that Zubair received ₹1,50,000 through an online transfer from Rehnuma Ali as payment for the illegal sale of the child.
Before the accused could leave for Kolkata with the infant, police apprehended all five accused, rescued the baby and restored her to the custody of her biological mother.
Cyberabad Police said the operation dismantled an interstate child trafficking and kidnapping network. The Commissioner of Police appreciated the coordinated efforts of the investigation teams.
