Hyderabad: Olectra to supply 1,085 buses to TGSRTC

TGSRTC electric bus operating in Hyderabad under e-bus expansion plan

HYDERABAD: Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) will receive 1,085 electric buses from Olectra Green Tech Limited under the Prime Minister’s PM E-Drive scheme.

TGSRTC has issued a Letter of Intent to the Hyderabad-based company. The Letter of Intent was issued under the aegis of Convergence Energy Services Limited (CESL), which is promoting electric mobility under the central scheme.

Olectra, a subsidiary of Megha Engineering & Infrastructures Limited (MEIL), is among the country’s leading electric commercial vehicle manufacturers. The buses will be operated by Evey Trans Private Limited.

Low-floor buses with 250km range

The company will supply 12-metre low-floor buses, including both air-conditioned and non-air-conditioned variants. The buses are designed for city road conditions.

Each bus can travel over 250km on a single charge. They are equipped with an opportunity charging facility that can recharge the battery in about 45 minutes. Modern air suspension systems have been installed at the front and rear.

Dedicated space has been provided for wheelchair users.

Order book crosses 10,000 vehicles

Olectra, headquartered in Hyderabad, has ranked first in electric bus manufacturing in the country in the current and previous financial years.

Apart from electric buses, the company manufactures electric tippers for urban infrastructure projects. It has deployed over 3,600 electric vehicles across India and currently holds orders for 10,000 vehicles.

The company’s vehicles have clocked over 500 million green kilometres, contributing to a reduction in carbon emissions.
