Hyderabad has no fuel shortage, says VC Sajjanar

HYDERABAD: Hyderabad Police Commissioner V C Sajjanar said there is no shortage of petrol or diesel in the city and urged residents not to believe rumours.
He said fuel stocks sufficient for nearly 60 days are available and asked people not to panic.
Rumours trigger surge in fuel demand across city
Sajjanar said misinformation led to a sudden spike in demand, with people rushing to petrol bunks for full tank refills. This caused temporary “no stock” boards at some outlets, which should not be mistaken for an actual shortage.
Fuel sales rose from 3,024 kilolitres on March 22 to 6,400 kilolitres on March 23 in the commissionerate limits. He said the increase was driven by panic buying.
Police warn action over violations and fake news
He warned that strict action will be taken against those selling petrol or diesel in bottles or containers in violation of rules.
Police are monitoring social media for misinformation, and action will be taken against those spreading false news and creating panic, he added.
Sajjanar conducted a high-level review on Wednesday with Hyderabad district collector Harichandana, additional commissioner of police Tapseer Iqbal, joint commissioner of police Shwetha, and civil supplies officials at Telangana State Integrated Command and Control Centre.
He said authorities are in constant touch with oil companies and supply remains uninterrupted across the city. Officials are monitoring the situation at 240 petrol bunks in coordination with civil supplies and revenue departments.
District collector Harichandana said a control room has been set up for public convenience and the situation is under continuous review with oil companies and civil supplies officials.
She said fuel supply is running smoothly at 186 bunks in Hyderabad district and urged people not to crowd outlets unnecessarily. She added that all measures are in place to ensure essential services are not affected and field-level machinery remains alert.
