Narsingi accused escapes police custody
HYDERABAD: An accused arrested after a 30-day operation escaped from custody at Narsingi police station on Tuesday night.
The accused, Syed Muzaffar Ali, 28, allegedly misled police by claiming he had stomach pain and needed to be taken to a hospital. He later entered the station toilet and escaped through a ventilator within minutes.
Police officials have taken the incident seriously and launched a search with special teams to trace him.
Accused involved in hashish oil trade, police say
Ali, a resident of Attapur, had reportedly taken to illegal activities at a young age. He allegedly became addicted to ganja and began selling hashish oil independently.
Despite previous jail time, he continued the trade, police said. Recently, investigators identified him as the supplier after detaining drug users.
Following surveillance for nearly 30 days, Telangana Eagle team conducted a raid on Tuesday and took him into custody, seizing 940 grams of hashish oil.
After initial questioning, officials handed him over to Narsingi police station. He was to be produced before a court for remand on Wednesday.
Ventilator gap aids escape; inquiry ordered
While in custody, Ali noticed that the ventilator in the toilet lacked glass panels due to repairs. He initially acted unwell and requested medical attention.
Later, on the pretext of urination, he entered the toilet and escaped through the ventilator.
Police are examining CCTV footage in the station and probing lapses that led to the escape. Senior officers have expressed concern over staff negligence.
In a related development, police arrested Ali’s mother Rahimunnisa and brother Syed Mohammed Madar Ali on Wednesday for their alleged role in the drug trade.
