Residents of Nallagandla HUDA Layout face dangers due to non-functional streetlights
Hyderabad: Residents of Nallagandla HUDA Layout are facing a serious problem due to non-functional streetlights. The lack of lighting has led to increased snakes entering homes and surrounding areas, posing a threat to the safety of residents, especially children.
While speaking to the Hyderabad Mail, Srikanth, a resident of Abode Anandam, highlighted the issue of non-functional streetlights, which has been a persistent problem for over a year. He expressed his concern about the dangers posed by snakes due to the darkness. “Snakes frequently enter our homes and surrounding areas due to the lack of proper streetlights,” Srikanth said. “This is a major safety hazard, especially for children playing outside. We are worried about the possibility of snake bites and potential loss of life.”
Srikanth further said that residents have been requesting repairs for existing streetlights and installation of new ones for over a year. However, their pleas have not been adequately addressed by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC). “We have filed complaints, but sometimes the authorities come and repair the lights, and other times they simply close the complaint without taking any action,” he said.
Srikanth also mentioned that the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) closed a previous complaint regarding non-functional streetlights without resolving it. To raise awareness and seek immediate action, Srikanth took to the social media platform ‘X,’ previously known as Twitter, and tagged the GHMC authorities. He urged them to address the issue promptly, highlighting the dangers posed to children by snakes in unlit areas.

The residents of Nallagandla HUDA Layout urge the GHMC to take immediate action to repair existing streetlights and install new ones in necessary areas to ensure the safety and well-being of residents, especially children, by mitigating the dangers posed by snakes and other hazards associated with darkness.
