Hyderabad Gandham Queen Victoria and Stephen Kumar duo swim Catalina Channel in US
HYDERABAD: A mother and son from Barkatpura, Hyderabad, successfully swam across the Catalina Channel in Los Angeles, United States, creating a new record.
Gandham Queen Victoria and her son Stephen Kumar completed the 42-km stretch between Catalina Island and the California coast. They undertook the swim to raise awareness among youth against drug abuse.
The duo travelled to the US on September 7. They began the swim at 10.48 pm US time on Sunday and completed it the next day at 11.30 am, Victoria said from America.
Victoria said the endeavour was encouraged by minister Uttam Kumar Reddy and his wife, Kodad MLA Padmavathi Reddy. She added that their goal is to attempt more channel swims in the coming months to set new records.
A photo released from the US showed the mother-son duo displaying the Indian national flag after completing the Catalina Channel swim.
