‘Why isn’t Hyderabad prepared for the monsoon?’ Residents question GHMC

Hyderabad : While the monsoon is already here, the Hyderabad roads in various localities are definitely not ready for the season. While some low-lying areas are dealing with inundation, some other areas are riddled with potholes filled with rainwater. Further damaged roads are worsening the situation for commuters in the rainy season in numerous streets.

From Banjara Hills to Tolichowki and other areas face different issues affecting their daily life in this monsoon. Residents are taking their issues to social media and are questioning the authorities, especially the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) for their lack of action, despite repeated requests.

Hyderabad Pothole Road Issues

A social media account, Hakku Initiative on Thursday highlighted how dangerous potholes can become in the monsoon season for the commuters in the Banjara Hills. “Banjara Hills | Hyderabad Potholes like these can pose a danger to the commuters especially in the rains. Repairs are urgently required to avoid any accidents.” The account further questioned why Hyderabad is not ready, despite the monsoon season here and the rainfalls have become heavy. The user has also highlighted the situation of bad roads in Bahadurpura areas as well.

Situation near a Tourist spot

Meanwhile, at one of the tourist spots in the city, near the Seven Tombs in Tolichowki, the situation is far worse. The residents lament that the roads have remained in poor condition for more than a year and a half and it has put the life of citizens at risk, proning them to accidents. “This is the condition of 7 tombs roads from the past 1.5 years. This is just a small picture, it’s much worse in actuality. Numerous accidents on a daily basis. I almost met one today. How do you expect us to follow road safety when this is the condition?,” laments another user.
