From Support To Empowerment How Hyderabad Mommies Is Helping Mothers Overcome Postpartum Depression

Hyderabad: Chhaya Sharma, a corporate professional, content creator, and the founder of Hyderabad Mommies, has created a space where mothers can find support, share experiences, and empower one another. Hyderabad Mommies, one of the largest women’s communities in the city, brings together moms from all walks of life to discuss everything from parenting tips to personal challenges.

The group provides a platform where mothers can post queries and receive solutions from fellow members, whether they are new moms, experienced moms, or those dealing with more complex issues like postpartum depression (PPD). “We have experts in various fields, from gynecologists and pediatricians to counselors and soul healers, offering their guidance. It’s a safe space where every mom can find support,” says Chhaya.

One of the group’s main goals is to challenge traditional gender roles that often place the burden of household chores and child-rearing solely on mothers. Chhaya explains, “In Hyderabad Mommies, we educate moms that it’s not just their responsibility. We encourage equal sharing of domestic duties and emphasize that it’s not feasible for one person to do it all. The demands of modern life are different, and it’s important to adapt.”

Hyderabad Mommies also addresses the mental and physical well-being of mothers, highlighting the importance of self-care. “It’s essential for moms to understand that they cannot pour from an empty cup. Hiring help, delegating tasks, and involving family members in household chores can make a significant difference,” Chhaya adds.

The group also fosters inclusivity, ensuring that all voices are heard, especially those of women from different backgrounds. Chhaya shares, “We have a team of moderators who ensure that every important query is addressed. Whether it’s about domestic violence, health issues, or professional concerns, we tag the appropriate experts to provide the right help.”

With over 40,000 members, the community is divided into WhatsApp groups based on locations, ensuring that mothers can find support specific to their areas. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the group also launched emergency helplines to assist with medical needs, food, and more, further strengthening the solidarity within the community.

In addition to offering practical support, Hyderabad Mommies provides opportunities for women to reconnect with their individual selves. “Moms are women first. We organize meetups and events like Zumba, playdates, and even pottery classes. These activities help moms rediscover their passions and connect with others beyond their roles as caregivers,” Chhaya says.

Chhaya highlights that the group encourages discussions on women’s rights, mental health, and work-life balance. “We strongly advocate for gender equality. Whether a mom is working or staying at home, everyone must share the responsibilities of the household. The group empowers women to find balance in their personal and professional lives,” she says.

The group also helps break the stigma around working and stay-at-home moms, offering a space where both can participate equally in discussions and activities. Chhaya adds, “We motivate moms to follow their passions, whether it’s through professional pursuits or creative hobbies. Many moms have turned their passions into professions with the help of the community.”

Hyderabad Mommies fosters a sense of collective strength and solidarity among its members. Through celebrations, online and offline events, and regular meetups, the group continuously creates a supportive environment for women to thrive together.

The idea for Hyderabad Mommies came when Chhaya faced challenges as a new mother and realized the need for a reliable community. “When my child was born, I found it difficult to find the right information, so I created this group to help others. It started small with a few friends, and now, it’s grown to over 40,000 members,” she says.

Chhaya, who balances her work in corporate life with her role as a mom and content creator, also runs parenting lifestyle pages on Instagram and shares her expertise on topics like yoga and wellness through her platform, Soulful Stretch.

Hyderabad Mommies continues to grow, offering mothers not only a space for guidance and support but also a community where they can celebrate their roles as both individuals and caregivers.
