Hyderabad MMTS train at station amid declining passenger numbers

HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Revanth Reddy on Thursday directed officials to frame a dedicated policy for mobilisation and effective utilisation of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds.

He asked the government to formally recognise organisations undertaking development and public welfare programmes in the state using CSR funds.

At a review meeting in the Legislative Council conference hall, the Chief Minister said a special programme should be organised during state formation day celebrations to honour top CSR contributors annually.

State-level CSR cell, portal planned for coordination

The government decided to set up a state-level CSR cell and a dedicated office. The cell will coordinate between corporate initiatives and projects available with government departments.

Officials were instructed to develop a portal to link the government and corporate entities.

During the review, officials informed that the state accounts for only three per cent of CSR contributions at the national level. The Chief Minister questioned why companies set up operations in Telangana but spend CSR funds elsewhere.

He directed officials to ensure higher inflow of CSR funds into the state and study models followed in other states. A new policy should help increase the share and attract corporate participation.

CM questions decline in MMTS passenger numbers

The Chief Minister also reviewed services of the Multi-Modal Transport System (MMTS) in Hyderabad along with minister Ponnam Prabhakar.

He asked officials to align MMTS services with commuter needs in core urban areas and sought reasons for the steady decline in passenger numbers.

“Services should increase during office hours and run on schedule. Since RTC buses cannot reach stations directly, mini buses should be operated to improve last-mile connectivity,” he said.

Officials were asked to explore revenue sources and submit a report on improving connectivity, passenger numbers and facilities.
