Hyderabad plans MMTS, Metro, RTC integration with skywalks

HYDERABAD: The Telangana government is focusing on integrating MMTS services with TSRTC buses and the Hyderabad Metro to improve last mile connectivity in the city.
Skywalks to link Metro, MMTS stations
Skywalks are planned at several locations to directly connect Metro stations with nearby MMTS stations and bus stops. The aim is to allow commuters to enter MMTS stations directly from Metro stations without using roads.
A detailed study has been completed by the Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority under the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority. Areas where MMTS and Metro stations are located close to each other include Secunderabad North and South, Begumpet, Nampally, Bharat Nagar, Malakpet and Khairatabad. Except at one or two locations, most stations currently lack skywalk connectivity.
A skywalk linking Secunderabad railway station, the MMTS station and nearby bus stops will be taken up shortly.
Bus stops to move closer to stations
Of the 51 MMTS stations in the city, only 21 have bus stops within walkable distance. The remaining stations are located far from bus stops, limiting passenger usage.
The authorities have decided to relocate bus stops closer to MMTS stations wherever possible. Roads and skywalks will also be built to enable easy access for commuters. Where relocation is not feasible, battery-operated vehicles with nominal fares are being considered to ferry passengers to and from stations.
