Hyderabad Mlc Poll Bandi Sanjay Warns Brs, Congress Leaders

Hyderabad: Just like mercury, the political battle for the Hyderabad Local Authorities Constituency (LAC) MLC seat, too, is heating up. Union Minister of State for Home Affairs and Telangana BJP leader Bandi Sanjay Kumar has warned the BRS and Congress corporators not to side with the All India Muslim-e-Ittehadul-Muslimeen (AIMIM) in the upcoming election.

The polling for the Hyderabad local authorities constituency (LAC) MLC election will be held on April 23, 2025. It will be a direct contest between the MIM and BJP as the BRS and Congress have not fielded any candidate.

If corporators support the AIMIM candidate, they should remember it is the Hindu community, not AIMIM leaders, who will vote for them in future elections, Bandi Sanjay told mediapersons after offering prayers at Akash Puri Hanuman Temple in Goshamahal on the occasion of Hanuman Jayanti on Saturday. He also advised them to check public sentiment before supporting the AIMIM party.

Mirza Riyaz ul Hassan Effendi from AIMIM is contesting the election while the BJP has fielded N Gautham Rao. A few Independent candidates are in the fray, but their nominations are likely to be rejected as 10 corporators are needed to support the nomination. The MLC election was necessitated as incumbent MLC M S Prabhakar Rao’s term will expire on May 1, 2025.

As only GHMC corporators and ex-officio members, including MLAs, MPs, and MLCs from the GHMC region are eligible to vote in the Hyderabad LAC election, AIMIM will likely win the election due to the tacit understanding with the ruling Congress. The AIMIM had recently supported Congress candidates in the March 23 MLC elections from the Assembly quota.

The electorate has 109 voters. The AIMIM leads with 49 voters and Congress has 14, while the rest are from BRS and BJP. The candidate has to secure 55 votes to win the MLC seat. Despite not having sufficient numbers in the local body, the saffron party fielded a candidate to ensure that the AIMIM does not get a free run.
