HYDERABAD: Agriculture, Handlooms and Textiles Minister Tummala Nageshwar Rao found widespread absenteeism during surprise inspections of four state offices on Wednesday.

Minister finds only 32 of 80 employees present

Officials are required to report by 10.30am, but the minister said nearly 60% of staff had not turned up even by 11am. He conducted inspections at Chenetha Bhavan in Nampally, the Hyderabad Cooperative Association (HACA) office opposite the Assembly, the Seed Development Corporation and the Seed Certification Agency.

Senior officers absent, outsourced staff at work

The minister noted that several senior officers, including general managers and managers, were not in their seats, while many outsourced staff were present. Of the 80 employees across the offices, only 32 had reported for duty. Forty eight were absent.

Disciplinary action ordered

Nageshwar Rao expressed anger over what he described as serious negligence. He said it was unacceptable that outsourced staff maintained punctuality while senior officials failed to do so. He directed commissioners and managing directors of the respective departments to initiate disciplinary action.
