Hyderabad Metro hires 20 transgender security personnel

HYDERABAD: Hyderabad Metro Rail on December 1 began induction-level security training for 20 transgender personnel who will be deployed across selected metro stations and inside trains after completion of the programme.
Training to focus on women’s safety roles
Metro officials said the new recruits will handle key frontline duties. Their responsibilities include ensuring the safety of women in general areas and in ladies-only coaches, assisting commuters with directions and information, monitoring baggage scanners and maintaining a visible security presence across station premises.

Metro says initiative aims at inclusion and safety
A release from Hyderabad Metro Rail said the initiative is designed not only to strengthen women’s safety but also to promote social inclusion through meaningful employment for marginalised communities.
“The engagement of transgender personnel marks a significant milestone in Hyderabad Metro Rail’s mission to create a safe, inclusive and commuter-friendly environment. Their presence will strengthen frontline passenger services and reinforce the safety framework, especially for women commuters,” the release said.

Metro carries nearly 5 lakh commuters daily
Hyderabad Metro Rail operates across three corridors with 57 stations and carries nearly 5 lakh passengers every day. Women constitute about 30% of its daily ridership.
