Hyderabad: In a recent update on ‘X,’ previously known as Twitter, L&T Hyderabad Metro Rail has announced that the first metro train on Tuesday, July 30, will commence at 5:30 a.m. from all terminal stations. This schedule adjustment is due to the Bonalu holiday, which falls on Monday.

L&T Hyderabad Metro Rail has also highlighted that passengers can enjoy extended hours and a comfortable journey throughout the Bonalu festivities, promising a seamless ride for all travelers.

Bonalu is a prominent Hindu festival that holds great significance as it is dedicated to the worship of Goddess Mahakali. Celebrated annually in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad, as well as other parts of Telangana, Bonalu occurs during Ashada Masam, which falls in July or August according to the Hindu calendar. This festival is not only a religious observance but also a vibrant cultural event that unites communities in deep devotion and gratitude. It beautifully showcases the rich traditional beliefs of Telangana, particularly emphasizing the enduring significance of Goddess Yellamma and her benevolence towards her devotees. The entire festival is marked by unique rituals, colorful processions, creating an atmosphere of joy and spiritual unity among the participants.

In light of the Bonalu celebrations, the Telangana State Government has announced the closure of all wine shops from July 28, 2024, to July 29, 2024. According to an official order, “Toddy and wine shops, including bars in restaurants (excluding bars in star hotels and registered clubs), shall remain closed within the limits of Cyberabad Police Commissionerate from 06:00 hours on July 28, 2024, to 06:00 hours on July 29, 2024, in connection with the celebration of the Bonalu festival.”

To accommodate the influx of devotees visiting the Lal Darwaza area for the Simha Vahini Sri Mahankali Ammavari Bonalu, the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) has deployed approximately 100 special buses from various locations across the twin cities. The TSRTC has also set up a help desk with dedicated personnel to assist with queries and provide directions, ensuring smooth transportation for festival attendees.
