Hyderabad Metro Rail delays paid parking rollout at Nagole & Miyapur stations

Hyderabad Metro Parking Delay at Nagole & Miyapur Stations

Hyderabad: In a significant update for Hyderabad Metro Rail commuters, L&T Hyderabad Metro Rail has announced a delay in the introduction of paid parking at the Nagole and Miyapur stations. The decision made public via the social media platform ‘X,’ formerly known as Twitter, aims to address passenger concerns and ensure a smoother implementation process.

The announcement read, “The launch of paid parking at Nagole and Miyapur has been deferred to address passenger concerns better and ensure a smooth implementation. Hyderabad Metro Rail appreciates your patience.”

Previously, L&T Metro Rail (Hyderabad) Limited (L&TMRHL) had planned to implement paid parking starting August 25 at Nagole and September 1 at Miyapur. However, the plan faced considerable backlash from commuters. The abrupt shift from free to paid parking, which included charges ranging from Rs. 10 for bike parking (up to two hours) to Rs. 120 for a full day’s car parking, was implemented without prior notice. This led to frustration and heated exchanges between commuters and parking attendants.

The dissatisfaction was particularly evident on the morning of August 14, 2024, when commuters at Nagole Metro Station encountered the new charges. Many questioned the fairness of the additional parking fees on top of existing metro fares, arguing that the combined costs are burdensome for daily travelers.

In response to the widespread dissatisfaction, L&T Hyderabad Metro Rail has deferred the implementation of the paid parking system. The move has been met with approval from passengers who appreciate the company’s consideration of their concerns.

Pranay (@pranaysayam) commented on the announcement, “This is a very good move. Also, increasing the number of metro coaches will boost daily passenger capacity.”
