Hyderabad Metro operator L&T owes GHMC ₹100 crore

HYDERABAD: Larsen & Toubro, which operates the Hyderabad Metro Rail project, owes nearly ₹100 crore to Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation towards advertisement dues.
The pending amount relates to advertisements displayed on metro pillars and stations. While payments were made until March 2018, not a single rupee has been paid thereafter, officials said.
Despite earning crores of rupees through metro rail advertisements, the company has not cleared the taxes due to the civic body. GHMC officials have issued notices several times seeking payment, but have received no response from the company.
Sources said the firm has been deferring payments citing project maintenance costs and operational losses.
Government to assume control from April
The Telangana government is set to take over the metro rail operations from the company from April. This has raised questions over the recovery of pending dues.
Officials said there is no clarity on whether the company will clear the arrears after the government assumes control. GHMC is considering issuing fresh notices before the end of this month to recover the dues before the transition.
