Government to take over Hyderabad Metro by March 31

HYDERABAD: The coming March is set to be crucial for Hyderabad Metro Rail. The state government aims to complete the takeover of Phase-1 Metro operations from L&T Metro Rail Hyderabad by March 31.

Centre to decide on Phase-2 clearances by March

The Centre has said it will examine the feasibility of the state’s proposals for Phase-2 expansion and take a decision on approvals by March. The state has proposed five corridors under Metro 2(A) and three corridors under Metro 2(B), to be built with joint participation of the Centre and the state.

Officials said the state government has already sent the detailed proposals to the Union government seeking approval.

L&T expresses readiness for handover

A major bottleneck was cleared after L&T Metro Rail Hyderabad indicated in recent discussions that it was open to transferring Phase-1 operations to the government. Authorities have initiated steps to complete the takeover by March 31.

Union minister says decision soon

Union housing and urban affairs minister Manohar Lal Khattar, speaking to the media in Hyderabad, said a decision on the state’s Phase-2 proposals would be taken before March. The takeover process, he said, should be completed before the Centre moves forward on the expansion clearances.
