Hyderabad police arrest house burglary accused, recover ₹10 lakh gold
HYDERABAD: The Mehdipatnam Police arrested a habitual offender allegedly involved in a house burglary and recovered stolen property worth about ₹10 lakh, including 157.8 grams of gold jewellery, an Activa scooter and ₹12,000 in cash.
The accused, identified as Biyya Shashidhar, 28, an Uber Bike rider from New Bowenpally, was arrested in connection with Crime No. 196/2026 registered under Section 305 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Mehdipatnam Police Station.
Complainant reported jewellery theft
According to police, Rajitha Srinivas Godari, 45, a resident of Siri Priya Residency in PS Nagar, Masab Tank, lodged a complaint on June 30, 2026, stating that gold jewellery had been stolen from her flat. Based on the complaint, Mehdipatnam Police registered a case and launched an investigation.
Accused allegedly exploited family acquaintance
Police said the accused was a friend of the complainant’s niece and had visited the house on several occasions. During those visits, he allegedly observed the layout of the house and identified the location where valuables were kept.
Investigators said he later offered to help the complainant sell her car. On the pretext of collecting the car keys, he entered her room, accessed the cupboard using the available keys and allegedly stole the gold jewellery.
Police said the accused later sold the stolen jewellery in the Secunderabad gold market, travelled to Goa and returned to Hyderabad after spending the proceeds.
Acting on credible information, the Mehdipatnam Police Crime Team apprehended him near Al-Saba Hotel in Vijay Nagar Colony. During questioning, the accused allegedly confessed to the offence.
Property recovered
Police recovered the following items from the accused:
- One gold chain (8.9 g)
- One spring-model gold ring (20 g)
- Six pairs of gold earrings (17.8 g)
- One gold ring (7.5 g)
- One gold bracelet (19.4 g)
- One gold necklace set (46.6 g)
- Two gold bangles (23.4 g)
- Three gold rings (14.2 g)
- One blue Honda Activa 3G scooter (TS 08 EL 1621)
- ₹12,000 in cash
The total value of the recovered property is estimated at about ₹10 lakh.
Investigation supervised by senior officers
The operation was carried out under the supervision of Golconda Zone Deputy Commissioner of Police J. Raghavender Reddy, Additional DCP B. Srikrishna Goud, Asif Nagar Assistant Commissioner of Police K. Srinivas, and Mehdipatnam Station House Officer S. Mallesh. Detective Inspector N. Rambabu and the Crime Team executed the arrest.
Senior police officers appreciated the investigating team and announced suitable rewards for their performance.
