HYDERABAD: Arbaaz kills rowdy-sheeter Suri in revenge attack

Sure Meerpet

HYDERABAD : A rowdy-sheeter with a long criminal record was allegedly stabbed to death by his former brother-in-law in Hyderabad’s Meerpet area on Monday night, in what police suspect was an act of revenge over two earlier murders.

Police identified the deceased as Dasari Surender alias Suri, 41/42, a rowdy-sheeter who had several criminal cases against him, including murder cases. He had also been externed from Hyderabad because of his criminal history.

Long-standing family feud

According to police, Surender had married Saba Fatima after a love marriage. He was accused of murdering her in 2022. Later, he allegedly murdered her brother Salman in 2024 after suspecting a threat to his life. Those killings allegedly fuelled a revenge plot by Fatima’s younger brother, Arbaz, who is believed to have waited for an opportunity to attack him.

Attack at birthday celebration

Police said Surender went to Meerpet on Monday night to attend the birthday celebrations of his second wife’s brother.

Investigators alleged that Arbaz, who also attended the gathering with friends, sprayed pepper spray into Surender’s eyes before attacking him with a knife. Surender tried to flee, but the assailants allegedly chased him for about half a kilometre and stabbed him repeatedly. He later died from his injuries.

Instagram Live after killing

Police are also examining a video that surfaced on social media in which the accused allegedly went live on Instagram after the murder and spoke to friends about the attack. The authenticity of the video is being verified as part of the investigation.

Task Force personnel and Meerpet police have reportedly detained Arbaz and other suspects for questioning. The investigation is continuing.
