HYDERABAD: The use of drugs continues to rise in the city, with police repeatedly uncovering narcotics in different areas despite intensified enforcement measures.

MDMA seized in joint operation

The Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing (HNEW), along with Masab Tank police, conducted a joint operation on Sunday and arrested one peddler and two sub-peddlers for selling MDMA.

Police seized 11 grams of MDMA, three mobile phones, a motorcycle and a car from the accused. HNEW officials said the seized drugs were valued at ₹4.6 lakh.

Drugs sourced from Bengaluru

During questioning, the accused told investigators that the MDMA was brought from Bengaluru to Hyderabad for sale. They disclosed that 1 gram of MDMA was being packed into sachets and sold to customers.

The arrested persons were identified as Karthik alias Alex, Balaji and Deepak.

Previous NDPS case against accused

HNEW officials said Balaji had earlier been an accused in a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. After his arrest and subsequent release, he allegedly re-entered the drug trade.

A case has been registered under the NDPS Act at Masab Tank police station. Officials urged youth to remain vigilant and stay away from drugs.
