Hyderabad man loses Rs. 4.9 lakh in matrimonial fraud
Hyderabad: A 45-year-old private employee from Hyderabad fell victim to a matrimonial scam, losing ₹4,97,200 while chatting with an unknown woman on a divorce matrimony app.
According to the Hyderabad cybercrime police, the woman introduced herself as a cardiologist and claimed to be divorced. Over time, they developed friendships on social media without meeting in person. The fraudster later proposed marriage, which the victim accepted.
Shortly after, the woman requested money, citing an urgent need for a patient’s treatment and promising to repay the amount within a week. Trusting her, the man transferred the money. She then contacted him again, claiming her mother had passed away and she needed additional funds. Believing her story, the victim made multiple transactions amounting to ₹4,97,200.
Despite assurances to return the money within two weeks, the fraudster stopped responding to his calls after receiving the funds. Realizing he had been duped, the victim filed a complaint with the Hyderabad cybercrime police.
