Hyderabad woman files cybercrime complaint matrimonial scam

HYDERABAD: A 26-year-old software engineer has alleged that she was cheated of ₹16 lakh by a man she met through a matrimonial platform, and later threatened when she demanded her money back.

According to the complaint filed on March 23, 2026, complainant, a resident of Madhapur, stated that she came in contact with a person identified as Chinthamreddy Venkata Karthik Reddy through a Matrimonial site.

She said the accused initially approached her through his father and shared personal details. The two began communicating, and in the early stages, he reportedly borrowed money and returned it, building trust.

Money taken in instalments under pressure and influence

The complainant alleged that the accused later began asking for larger sums and pressured her to borrow from friends. Over time, she transferred a total of ₹16,00,000 to multiple bank accounts linked to him.

She stated that the payments were made in instalments, initially around ₹70,000, and later increasing significantly under repeated requests.

Threats issued when victim demanded repayment

When she sought the return of her money, the accused allegedly threatened to harm her family. The complaint includes multiple contact numbers and an Instagram ID used by the accused.

The complainant has requested police to take legal action against the accused for causing wrongful financial loss and issuing threats.

Police are examining the details provided, including phone numbers and digital communication records, to trace the suspect and verify the transactions.
