Hyderabad diner alleges cockroach found in mandi at Malakpet restaurant

HYDERABAD: A resident on Sunday alleged that a cockroach was found in the mandi served at a restaurant in Malakpet, triggering fresh concerns over food hygiene in the city.
In a video shared on social media, the insect is seen in the mandi served at the restaurant located in Malakpet. The individual alleged that the restaurant staff refused to take responsibility for the unhygienic food.
The complainant, however, did not alert the restaurant owner or manager at the time, according to the claims made online.
Such complaints are not new in Hyderabad. In the past, several netizens have alleged finding insects in food served at various eateries across the city, particularly mandi restaurants.
Officials have earlier stated that raids by task force teams of the Telangana Food Safety Department have revealed unhygienic conditions in multiple outlets. Violations flagged during inspections included the use of dirty utensils, cockroach and housefly infestation, and storage of expired food items.
Following these raids, authorities said food items were seized, notices were issued and samples were collected for testing. Despite enforcement action, residents continue to raise concerns that hygiene standards at several food outlets remain poor.
