Hyderabad man’s bike search

Chikkadpally: A man’s two-year search for his bike, seized in a drunk driving case, continues after it disappeared from police custody in Hyderabad. For two years, the 35-year-old has been running from pillar to post for his lost bike but in vain.

On 6th October 2022, Chikkadpally police caught K V Sai Abhishek drunk driving. They seized his bike and sent him to judicial custody. After hearing the case, the court sentenced him to five days of simple imprisonment.

After serving his sentence, he went to Chikadpally traffic police for his bike. There, he was informed that it was stolen and the police filed a complaint with Chikadpally law and order police. Since then, he was blackballed from Chikadpally traffic to law and order police station.

Sai bought the Pulsar NS 110 bike in 2021 with a net payment of Rs 1.27 lakhs. Sharing the details Sai informed HyderabadMail, that “It was my dream, and after a lot of struggles I was able to get my hands on it. I am the sole breadwinner. My father, due to financial issues, sold the house and after clearing debts, gifted me the bike. For a middle-class family like mine, a two-wheeler is not a luxury but a necessity.” He commutes over 25 kilometers daily from Ramanthapur to Gachibowli, for his workplace.

Man’s bike was seized after drunk driving case

Narrating the sequences, Sai shared, “In October 2022, I was caught drunk driving during the afternoon, and the police took my two-wheeler. Following which I attended counseling at Begumpet traffic institute. Subsequently, my case went to court where I was sentenced to five days jail. I served my term from 5th to 10th Jan 2023.”

“Immediately the next day in the evening, I went to Chikkadpally traffic police to request my bike. Subsequently, they sent me to Musheerabad bus depot, where the confiscated bikes are kept, along with a constable. After searching for a few hours as it was dark, he suggested I come early in the morning for the bike. This repeated for over 10 days. Finally, on Feb 1st, 2023 I learned it was missing and Chikkadpally traffic police filed a complaint with Law and order,” added Sai.

According to the complaint from a police constable on court duty working in Chikkadpally traffic police, while performing a drunken drive test at Chikkadpally Metro Station, tested rider Sai Abhishek’s Breathalyzer Test showed above the 30 BAC permissible limit. Sai Abhishek couldn’t show any vehicle documents. A case was registered against him U/s 185(a), 130/177 of M.V. Act, and his vehicle was temporarily seized and kept in Safe Custody in Musheerabad Bus Depot-I.

“After filing the charge sheet, the court fined Sai Abhilash and sentenced him to five days in jail. Then, the complainant went to Musheerabad Bus Depot-1 to hand over two vehicles to the persons. But the complainant couldn’t find them, so he checked all available there, but could not find the vehicle. Then the complainant checked release particulars of the vehicles in the Register, but they were not released from the Depot nor found in the Parking area. The complainant suspects an unknown person stole the vehicles,” read the First Information Report(FIR).

In the last two years, despite submitting representations to two Hyderabad city police commissioners during their respective tenures, he could not get his bike.

“I ran from one police station to another in the hope of getting my bike back. Now I have lost hope. I want to file a case in court but can’t afford it. Some police personnel branded me a thief, saying I stole my bike,” said distressed Sai. The case remains unresolved as Sai continues his search for answers and his bike.
