Man sits in pothole to protest crumbling Old City roads
HYDERABAD: A local resident sat inside a large pothole on a busy Old City road on Sunday evening to protest its poor condition, briefly bringing traffic to a standstill.
Feroze staged the protest on Imlibun-Putlibowli Road near Gowliguda bus stand. He wanted to highlight the problems faced by motorists and pedestrians because of pothole-ridden roads.
The protest was captured on video and widely shared on social media. It came amid complaints over potholes that have increased after recent rains.
Traffic police rushed to the spot and tried to persuade Feroze to leave the road, citing the disruption caused on the busy stretch.
GHMC says repeated patchwork failed amid water stagnation
A senior Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) official said patchwork had been carried out three times on the stretch.
“Patchwork had been carried out three times on the stretch, but persistent water stagnation had caused the road to deteriorate again,” the official said.
According to an executive engineer from the GHMC town planning department, road levelling and scraping work was under way at the location on Monday.
Bituminous filling planned before permanent concrete road
The official said potholes would be filled with bituminous material on Tuesday.
After obtaining permission from the joint commissioner (traffic), a cement concrete road will be laid on the stretch, the executive engineer added.
