Hyderabad man drowns in Toronto Lake on his birthday
Hyderabad: A young man from Hyderabad accidentally drowned while swimming in Clear Lake in Toronto during his birthday celebrations on September 15, 2024.
The deceased has been identified as Praneeth, a native of Meerpet, Hyderabad. He had completed his Master’s degree and was in Canada seeking employment.
According to Praneeth’s father, A Ravi, Praneeth had gone on holiday with friends and his brother to a cottage near Clear Lake on Saturday. On Sunday morning, Praneeth went swimming with his friends and brother but did not return. Local police were alerted, and rescue teams took over 10 hours to reach the lake. Praneeth’s body was recovered in the evening.
The devastating news reached Praneeth’s family on Monday through a friend of his brother. The family is in contact with Praneeth’s friends in Canada, who are working with local authorities. They have appealed to the Telangana government for assistance in repatriating Praneeth’s body to India.
Praneeth’s father expressed profound grief, highlighting the tragic irony that his son’s birthday celebration turned into a day of mourning. The family is seeking support to expedite the process of bringing Praneeth’s body back to Hyderabad.
