Yousufguda resident says two ₹50,000 debits after APK download
HYDERABAD: A 38-year-old private employee from Yousufguda, Hyderabad, lodged a complaint with the Cyber Crime police at Basheerbagh on September 15 after losing ₹1,00,000 to a fraudulent APK file received through WhatsApp.

In his written complaint, Kondapuram Chiranjeevi, a resident of L N Nagar, said he received a message on September 8 from the number 9989896959 containing an APK file titled “RTO CHALLAN.” He said he downloaded the file but it did not open.
Five days later, on September 13, he noticed that two unauthorised debits of ₹50,000 each had been made from his IndusInd Bank account. The amounts were transferred to accounts named as Sudhir Chandra and Ambedkar, according to the complaint.
Victim seeks urgent probe
Chiranjeevi submitted the details of the two transactions, including account and reference IDs, to the Cyber Crime unit at Baseerbagh. He requested immediate action and recovery of his money.
Police have cautioned users against downloading APK files or clicking unknown links shared over messaging platforms. Cybercrime officers said such files often gain access to SMS, banking OTPs and other device permissions, enabling unauthorised transactions.
