Hyderabad Man Loses Rs. 1.9l In Scam While Seeking Godrej Ac Repair Help

Hyderabad: A 67-year-old retired man from Hyderabad was duped into losing Rs. 1,90,000 after he searched for the customer care number of Godrej Air Conditioner to arrange for repairs. The incident took place a week ago, and the victim has since filed a complaint with the Hyderabad cybercrime police.

According to police, the victim found a contact number online and called it. The fraudster on the other end assured him of assistance, claiming to send a message with a link. The victim was instructed to fill in his details. After clicking the link, he was asked to pay Rs. 10 to confirm his account. Growing suspicious, the victim disconnected the call.

However, the next day, when the victim checked his Central Bank account, he noticed that Rs. 1,90,000 had been debited.

In response to the incident, authorities issued a public advisory warning against fake messages and APK files, especially those claiming to be from banks. Such messages can be harmful and lead to unauthorized access to personal data. Banks do not communicate via individual mobile numbers and always use authenticated SMS gateways.

The advisory also highlighted the risks of downloading APK files from unofficial sources, as they may contain malware or spyware.
