Hyderabad Man Loses Rs. 1.1 Lakh To Fraudulent Investment Offer On Instagram

Hyderabad: A 25-year-old man working as an analyst in Hyderabad fell victim to a cyber fraud, losing ₹1,10,000. According to Hyderabad Cybercrime Police, the victim received a message two months ago via an Instagram business account named alhaadiislamic.expo. The message claimed that the sender was seeking investment for an event and expo in Hyderabad. Initially, the victim did not engage in the investment, despite repeated contact from the fraudster.

In December 2024, the victim decided to invest after further discussions with the fraudster, who assured him of guaranteed returns. However, the fraudster later informed the victim that the event had been postponed, promising to return the investment along with the expected profits after a delay.

Since then, the fraudster kept providing new dates for the return of the funds but failed to deliver the promised amount or any profits. The victim later learned that multiple investors had been targeted with the same tactics, lured by promises of high returns.

As a result, the victim suffered financial losses, mental distress, and strained relationships. The total amount lost in the scam was ₹1,10,000.

Public Advisory:

Beware of fake investment groups on social media platforms such as Telegram, WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook. These groups often promise high returns with little risk. Avoid falling for these scams, and always use SEBI-approved apps for investments. Before investing, verify the credentials of financial advisors through SEBI registration.

Scammers may credit a small amount into your account initially to gain your trust and allow withdrawals, making it harder to detect their fraudulent schemes.
