Hyderabad man arrested for snatching gold chain

Hyderabad: Rajendranagar and Narsingi Crime Staff apprehended an individual at midnight on September 11, 2024, during a vehicle check at Alkapur Colony within the Narsingi Police Station limits.
The suspect, riding a Honda Activa Scooty, exhibited suspicious behavior, leading to his detention. During questioning, he provided evasive responses, prompting his transfer to the police station for further interrogation. Following this, the suspect confessed to the crime.
The accused has been identified as Uppugunta Sagar, son of Uppugunta Rajender, a resident of Lingampally. A case has been registered against him under Crime No. 1169/2024, Section 309(4) BNS, at the Narsingi Police Station.
On August 17, 2024, at around 17:15, Ganga Bhavani (26) from Puppalguda, Gandipet Mandal, Ranga Reddy District, reported a theft. She was walking home with her children after picking them up from school when an unidentified man on an Activa bike, wearing a helmet, approached her from behind. The man forcibly snatched a gold nuptial chain (approximately 3 tolas) from her neck and fled, causing Bhavani to fear for her safety. The suspect was described as about 25 years old, wearing a black shirt.
Recovered items from Sagar include one gold nuptial chain weighing about 30 grams, one Honda Activa 6G scooter (B.No. TS-07-HK-8105), one cream-colored jacket, one Vivo mobile phone.
Modus Operandi:
Sagar, a resident of Gulmohar Park, Lingampally, Hyderabad, and formerly employed as a private school van driver and food delivery boy, struggled with financial issues and addiction. Desperate for money, he resorted to criminal activities. On August 17, 2024, Sagar targeted a woman in Puppalaguda, using his two-wheeler (Honda Activa 6G, B.No. TS-07-HK-8105), a helmet, and a concealed number plate to evade identification. He snatched the gold chain from Bhavani and fled.
Sagar had a prior criminal record, having been arrested in 2022 for a similar offense under Crime No. 839/2022 at KPHB Police Station, Cyberabad. He was sent to judicial custody but released on bail after 25 days. Despite this previous conviction, he committed another similar crime on August 17, 2024, within the Narsingi Police Station limits.
The arrest was carried out under the supervision of K. Narsimha, DCP Crimes, Cyberabad, and closely monitored by K. Shashank Reddy, ACP Crimes, N. Sanjay Kumar, Inspector of Police, CCS Rajendranagar, and A. Srinivas, DI of Narsingi Police Station.
