Speeding car kills two sleeping on Hyderabad pavement

HYDERABAD: Reckless driving by a youth cost two lives in the early hours of Wednesday in Mailardevpally, police said. A speeding car, driven without a valid licence, went out of control and rammed into a roadside hut where a family was sleeping.
The incident occurred around 4.30 am near Durganagar junction under the limits of Mailardevpally police station.
Father and son die; another son critical
According to Circle Inspector Satyanarayana, the driver, Syed Mustafa, 22, a resident of Santosh Nagar, was driving the car at a speed exceeding 100 kmph. He had no driving licence.
The car crashed into a hut on the footpath where Prabhavat, 55, originally from Madhya Pradesh, was sleeping with his sons Sathudev, 26, and Deepak, 19. The family had been selling blankets and sweaters at the junction for the past 12 years.
Deepak died on the spot after suffering severe head and chest injuries. Prabhavat succumbed while undergoing treatment at a hospital. Sathudev is undergoing treatment and is stated to be out of danger.
Driver and car owner booked
Police said Mustafa was returning from a wedding reception in Bandlaguda, Old City, where he had gone with four friends in a car owned by Omar, also from Bandlaguda. Mustafa, who studies BCom at RKD College in Chaderghat and works part-time as a bouncer, took the wheel while returning after a tea break at Katedan.
A case has been registered against Mustafa for rash and negligent driving. Omar has also been booked for allowing an unlicensed person to drive the vehicle, police added.
