Hyderabad local body MLC poll: Cases filed against anti-AIMIM banners

Hyderabad: Days after banners requesting the corporators to ‘Vote against AIMIM’ in the Hyderabad Local Body Member of Legislative Council (MLC) elections were put up in some parts of Hyderabad, the authorities have registered cases against the individuals involved.
During a press conference at the GHMC headquarters, GHMC Additional Commissioner, Anurag Jayanti stated that the issue of unauthorised banners has been formally reported to the Election Commission of India (ECI).
Through the banners in Telugu, an earnest appeal was made to the GHMC corporators and ex-officio members (MPs, MLAs, and MLCs) of Hyderabad district to vote against the AIMIM candidate Mirza Riyaz Ul Hassan Effendi in the April 23 election to the Council from the Hyderabad Local Authorities’ Constituency.
The Additional Commissioner said erecting unauthorised banners is a violation of ECI guidelines and the Model Code of Conduct. Any content on election material of any political party, if it is deemed offensive, will not be tolerated, he added.
Earlier in the day, polling for Hyderabad Local Body MLC election was held at the GHMC head office. Over 78 per cent votes were polled in the election.
According to election officials, out of a total of 112 eligible voters, 88 cast their votes, marking a 78.57 per cent voter turnout. The voters included 66 corporators and 22 ex-officio members from the Congress, BJP, and AIMIM participated in the election process.
