Hyderabad Local Body Mlc Elections Begin At Ghmc Hq; Results On April 25

Hyderabad: Polling for the Hyderabad Local Body Member of Legislative Council (MLC) election began at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) headquarters. The vote count will take place on Friday, April 25.

Two polling stations have been set up at the GHMC office to facilitate voting for 112 registered voters, comprising corporators and ex-officio members. Corporators are voting as primary voters, while MPs, MLAs, and MLCs from the district are casting their votes as ex-officio members.

The election is a direct contest between Mirza Riyaz Ul Hassan Effendi of the AIMIM and N. Goutham Rao of the BJP.

Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, Returning Officer Anurag Jayanti said all arrangements for the election had been completed. He noted that each polling station is staffed with four personnel, with additional staff on standby.

Section 144 is in effect near the polling locations, and security has been tightened with the deployment of 200 to 250 police personnel. Around 500 officials and staff are on election duty. Anurag Jayanti said polling and counting staff had been trained and all necessary facilities arranged to ensure smooth conduct of the election.

To accommodate the polling, the GHMC has declared April 23 a holiday for its headquarters staff, excluding those on election duty. These employees will work on June 14, the second Saturday of the month, as a compensatory working day.

Election Additional Commissioner A. Mangatayaru, Hyderabad Deputy Collector Ravi, and other officials were present at the briefing.
