Wine shops, bars to remain closed in Hyderabad and Secunderabad for Hanuman Jayanti on April 12

Hyderabad: In view of the upcoming Hanuman Jayanti celebrations, Hyderabad City Police Commissioner C.V. Anand, IPS, has ordered the closure of all wine and toddy shops, as well as bars attached to restaurants within the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad, from 6:00 a.m. on April 12, 2025, to 6:00 a.m. on April 13, 2025.
The order has been issued in exercise of the powers vested in the Commissioner under Section 20 of the Telangana Excise Act, 1968. It applies to all liquor outlets and restaurant bars, excluding bars located in star hotels and registered clubs.
The decision is aimed at maintaining public peace and tranquillity during the Hanuman Jayanti celebrations being held across the twin cities.
Meanwhile, a coordination meeting was held on April 9 at the Osmania Medical College Auditorium in Koti to plan arrangements for the Sri Veera Hanuman Vijaya Yatra scheduled on April 12.
The meeting included officers from the Hyderabad City Police, as well as officials from Cyberabad and Rachakonda Commissionerates, along with representatives of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), Roads & Buildings (R&B) Department, Fire Services, Electricity Department, EMRI, TGSRTC, HMWS&SB, Transport, and Health & Medical Departments.
Also present were members from the Telangana Rashtra Bajrang Dal, Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), and other organizers of the procession.
Commissioner CV Anand stressed the need for peaceful conduct of the Yatra and urged organizers to inform police about any unfamiliar individuals joining the procession. He requested cooperation with traffic authorities to avoid congestion.
Guidelines were issued on idol height, directing organizers to ensure idols do not exceed the height of railway bridges to prevent route changes. Use of DJ systems was discouraged to reduce noise pollution, with a suggestion to use large sound boxes without mixers.
With rain forecasted for April 12, GHMC and traffic police were asked to prepare accordingly. Organizers were also advised to inform police about the number of participants and vehicles involved.
Volunteers, or rope party members, should be trained and deployed in larger numbers for crowd management. Organizers were asked to inspect tusker vehicles beforehand to ensure they can pass through narrow lanes.
Referring to previous events, CV Anand explained the need for restraint during the return leg of the Yatra. Drone usage is prohibited unless specifically authorized by the police.
About 150 Vijaya Yatras are expected within Hyderabad City Police limits, with 46 more from Cyberabad and Rachakonda joining the main procession. The Commissioner warned against spreading rumors or provocative content on social media.
To monitor the event, a joint control room will operate from 8 a.m. on April 12 at the Hyderabad City Police Commissioner’s Office in the ICCC Building, Banjara Hills. Officers from all concerned departments will be stationed there to assist with any issues.
A route inspection was also conducted, starting from Sri Rama Mandir, Gouli Guda, passing through Narayanaguda, RTC X Roads, Ashok Nagar, Kavadiguda, Bible House, and concluding at Tadbund Hanuman Temple, covering approximately 12.2 km. Officials were directed to complete all pending works along the route.
The meeting was attended by senior officers including Vikram Singh Mann, IPS, Additional CP (L&O); Joel Davis, IPS, Joint CP Traffic; Raghu Prasad, Additional Commissioner, GHMC; and representatives from TGSRTC, R&B, and the medical department, along with leaders from the VHP and Bajrang Dal.
