Hyderabad Liberation Day celebrations: Who said what?
Hyderabad: Call it ‘Hyderabad Liberation Day’ or ‘Praja Palana Dinotsavam’ (Public Governance Day), both the State and Central governments celebrated the merger of Hyderabad princely state into the Indian Union in 1948 on a grand scale in Hyderabad on Tuesday, September 17.
The Congress government had organized the programme to mark the 76th anniversary of liberation of Hyderabad from Nizam’s rule at Public Garden, Nampally. The celebrations began with the floral tributes led by the Chief Minister Revanth Reddy to the Telangana martyrs at Gun Park.
Later, the Chief Minister unfurled the national flag and took a salute from the police. Delivering his address, Revanth Reddy said his government is focusing on fixing the financial situation and implementing the six poll guarantees.
Revanth Reddy says he’s not a farmhouse chief minister
Responding to the criticism over his frequent trips to the national capital, the Chief Minister said his priority is to secure needed funds from the Centre to develop the state. Taking an indirect dig at the BRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao, Reddy said he was not a “farmhouse chief minister”.
“They are criticizing me for making frequent visits to Delhi. I’m not a farmhouse chief minister to sit idle and do nothing for the state. Also, my visits are not for personal reasons,” Revanth Reddy said.
On the other side of the city, the Central government held a grand event at Parade Grounds to commemorate the day of historical significance. Union Coal Minister G Kishan Reddy attended the event as a chief guest.
Kishan Reddy takes a dig at BRS and Congress
In his address, Kishan Reddy remarked that successive governments have failed to officially celebrate September 17 as ‘Hyderabad Liberation Day’. He accused both the former BRS regime and current Congress government of indulging in “appeasement and vote bank” politics.
“When KCR was not in power, he would question the ruling government for not celebrating September 17 officially. He altered his stance after coming to power in Telangana. He feared losing the support of ally AIMIM and therefore misinterpreted the liberation day,” Kishan Reddy stated.
