Kite festival disruptions trip 309 power feeders in Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: Kites and nylon string (manjha) flying across the city disrupted electricity supply in several areas over the past two days, with hundreds of power feeders tripping after getting entangled in overhead lines.
On Wednesday, 309 feeders tripped across the city, officials said. A similar number of feeders were affected on Thursday, causing power interruptions lasting five to ten minutes in several localities. Electricity staff removed kites and manjha from power lines, transformers and poles to restore supply.
The highest number of disruptions was reported from the South Circle of Hyderabad, where 107 feeders tripped. Kite-related faults led to breakdowns in more than 15 areas, officials said.
Power staff also carried out removal operations during the night in some localities. Feeder trippings were reported from multiple circles, including Hyderabad South, Secunderabad, Banjara Hills, Rajendranagar, Saroornagar, Cyber City, Habsiguda and Medchal.
Senior officials said a special drive to clear kites and manjha from electricity lines would continue across circles and divisions until Monday to prevent further disruptions.
