GHMC Plans Signal-Free KBR Corridor Without Tree Cutting

HYDERABAD: Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has said the proposed grade separator corridor around Kasu Brahmananda Reddy National Park will not involve the felling of even a single tree inside the park.
The civic body on Sunday released a special video explaining the project planned to address long-standing traffic congestion in the busy Jubilee Hills and Banjara Hills areas. Officials said the project has been designed to balance urban development with environmental protection under the “Green Hyderabad” initiative.
‘Zero park intrusion’ policy
GHMC said the corridor has been designed without affecting the eco-sensitive zone of the park. Officials said the project follows a “Zero Park Intrusion” policy and that flyovers and underpasses will be built only within existing road medians without touching park land.
The civic body also clarified that no tree inside KBR Park would be cut for the project.
Steel structures to speed up work
GHMC said steps are being taken to minimise inconvenience to motorists and local residents during construction. Instead of conventional concrete structures, the project will prioritise steel flyovers.
Officials said steel structures would allow construction to be completed 30 to 40 times faster than conventional methods, reducing prolonged traffic disruptions on key roads.
Jubilee Hills to Madhapur signal-free stretch
Officials said the project would provide a fully signal-free corridor from Jubilee Hills Checkpost to Film Nagar after completion.
According to GHMC estimates, air pollution in the Jubilee Hills and Banjara Hills areas could reduce by up to 72 per cent. The project is also expected to ease traffic congestion at major junctions.
Officials said motorists could save more than ₹40 crore worth of fuel. They also estimated that a reduction in air pollution could help prevent nearly 13.66 lakh tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions.
