GHMC speeds up KBR Park road expansion

Listen to Story
Tree removal and flyover construction near KBR Park Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: Authorities have accelerated construction of flyovers and underpasses around KBR Park. The project includes seven flyovers and seven underpasses aimed at easing traffic congestion.

The GHMC has identified 1,500 trees for removal and completed their numbering earlier. Officials have now begun pruning branches as part of the process.

380 trees to be relocated as per forest advice

Forest officials have advised relocating 380 trees instead of removing them. Authorities plan to uproot these trees scientifically, along with roots, using cranes and earthmovers, and replant them at designated locations.

Officials said the process will follow earlier methods used to relocate trees from NTR Garden to Necklace Road. However, Conocarpus trees will not be reused due to limited utility.

The remaining trees will be replanted in areas around Shamshabad and at the Shaikpet Rock Garden.

₹1,090 crore project targets signal-free travel

The project, costing ₹1,090 crore, includes seven steel flyovers and seven underpasses. In the first phase, ₹580 crore works include:

  • A Y-shaped grade separator at Jubilee Hills Check Post
  • A four-lane steel flyover from KBR entrance to Road No. 36
  • A two-lane flyover from Yousufguda to Road No. 45
  • Underpasses connecting Panjagutta Road No. 2 to Cancer Hospital junction

In the second phase, ₹510 crore works will focus on Film Nagar and Maharaja Agrasen junctions.

Once both phases are completed, signal-free travel is expected across key junctions around Jubilee Hills Check Post.
