HYDERABAD: South Central Railway has introduced a portable ticketing device to simplify the issue of unreserved tickets.

Passengers can now avoid queues and obtain tickets directly from the travel ticket examiner (TTE) stationed at the entry gate. The service has been launched for the first time in the Hyderabad division at Kachiguda railway station and will be extended to other stations soon.

Handheld devices enable faster ticket issue

At present, three TTEs are using the device across three shifts at Kachiguda station. The device is linked to the mobile Unreserved Ticketing System (UTS) application and is used to issue platform tickets and unreserved tickets.

Chief Ticket Inspector Chandrasekhar said the system uses mobile thermal printing technology and can print tickets at a speed of 80 mm per second. He added that passengers can make payments through Unified Payments Interface (UPI) or cash, and awareness is being created among travellers about the facility.

High passenger footfall at Kachiguda station

Kachiguda railway station handles 120 train movements daily, including passenger and express services. In addition, 40 Multi-Modal Transport System (MMTS) services operate for suburban travel.

Around 55,000 passengers use the station daily.

Apart from dedicated counters for unreserved tickets, automatic ticket vending machines have also been installed. These touchscreen-based machines allow passengers to select language, destination and ticket type, and make payments through UPI or quick response (QR) codes.

About 200 passengers use these machines every day.
