HMWSSB fines Jubilee Hills resident for wasting drinking water
HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) has warned that strict action will be taken against those found wasting drinking water after imposing a ₹5,000 fine on a consumer in Jubilee Hills.
Officials found drinking water being used to wash the premises of a building on Road No. 33 in Jubilee Hills, resulting in wastage.
Consumer directed to pay fine within seven days
Officials of the HMWSSB Operations and Maintenance Division-6 conducted a field inspection and issued a notice imposing a fine of ₹5,000 on the consumer. The board directed the consumer to pay the amount within seven days of receiving the notice.
The board said that under Sections 38 and 39 of the HMWSSB Act, 1989, drinking water must be used judiciously and officials are empowered to inspect premises to detect misuse of water.
Board warns of disconnection for repeat violations
The HMWSSB warned that any repeat violation would invite action under Section 42 of the Act, including disconnection of drinking water and sewerage connections, along with further legal action.
The board appealed to the public not to use drinking water for washing vehicles, roads or premises and urged residents to use water responsibly and conserve the resource.
