Police said their income was insufficient to fund their lifestyle, including spending on pubs and outings. They allegedly turned to chain-snatching for quick money.
On Tuesday morning, the couple spotted a woman software engineer walking in Jubilee Hills while looking at her phone. Narendra rode the bike while Revathi, who was riding pillion, allegedly snatched the gold chain from the woman’s neck and fled.
Accused tracked through CCTV and toll plaza cameras
After receiving information about the incident, Jubilee Hills police examined CCTV footage at the scene. They identified the suspects travelling towards Guntur on a motorcycle.
Using footage from toll plaza cameras, police tracked their movement and arrested them within a few hours of the crime, around 8 pm. The stolen gold chain was recovered from their possession.
Police said the accused had no prior criminal record and had allegedly committed the offence for the first time to meet their expenses. They are currently in police custody.
